Pietro Pot
Vase, Porcelain, Photo by Pietro

Pietro Elia Maddalena at Silvie Granatelli's Studio

Although I am a great lover of Bernard Leach ideas on aesthetics and will always love to make pots and pursue that goal of understatement in form and beauty of glazes, at the moment in my work I try to expand my aesthetic vocabulary and skills in other sensibilities like lightness and plastic decoration. I have been always intrigued by wings and symmetry (after all I was firstly trained as an engineer and I liked it !) and you can find it in almost all cultures as a very important part of their lives and rituals. I have decided to use porcelain as a clay that probably will give some satisfactory responses to this interest but I do not exclude other clays for diversifying the search. If it was only for my artistic satisfaction both intellectual and guttural  I would stop at the raw work. For other important reasons I try to finish my work in a way were glazes will hopefully add something. But it's not often the case. My work wants to be handled and feel useful. Like myself!
