Mark Shapiro at Ellen Shankin's Studio
Mark Shapiro has made wood fired functional pots in Western Massachusetts for the past twenty years. He has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows, and is a frequent workshop leader and panelist. Lately he has been interviewing potters and writing about the field. He is particularly interested apprenticeships, early American stoneware as a source of inspiration for contemporary potters, and he is currently working on a retrospective of the work of Karen Karnes. His work is shown by Ferrin Gallery and Locoste Gallery in Massachusetts and is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Racine Art Museum, the Mint Museum (NC), and the International Museum of Ceramics at Alfred, NY.
