Kevin Hluch at Rick Hensley & Donna Polseno's Studio

Kevin has been making sculpture and pottery since 1975. He was strongly influenced by his teaching at St. Cloud State University from 1979 to 1982, where he met an influential group of potters which included Warren MacKenzie, Linda Christianson, Mark Pharis, Jeff Oestreich and Wayne Branum. These potters were instrumental in his discovery of the beauty of pots, and Kevin's book, "The Art of Contemporary American Pottery" was an indirect result of that experience.

Kevin has taught for two years at Kenyatta University outside of Nairobi, Kenya, and one year at Yarmouk University located in Irbid, Jordan. He is currently Professor of Art at Montgomery College where he has been employed for 24 years. He has always been interested in Eastern art, and recently iconic images of the lotus, koi, and Asian calligraphy have found their way into his work. Kevin's work is handbuilt and fired to cone 6 in electric kilns.

Kevin works in a renovated 6000 sq. ft. building previously called the Pythian Castle in downtown Frederick, MD. This space contains a gallery, studio space for he and his wife (a fiber artist), and their residence. You can contact Kevin at hluch@verizon.net.
